Associate Pastor of Congregational Life
After serving churches in Houston and Orlando, The Reverend Dr. Tim Filston came to Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church in 2003. He serves as Pastor of Congregational Life. Although his focus is discipleship, Tim also oversees local mission partnerships throughout Chattanooga. This link is intentional, with the goal of seeing discipleship culminate in service and leadership.
Tim was ordained in 1996 called to Windwood Presbyterian, Houston, Texas. Following a catastrophic charter bus crash during a church retreat in Colorado, Tim worked with his congregation to produce a video documentary called "An Awesome God," capturing the stories of families whose loss shaped and strengthened their faith.
During his time at First Presbyterian, Orlando, Tim began doctoral studies in Missional Ecclesiology. Simply put, he has considered how traditional churches may align everything they do with their mission. Tim grew up in Durham, N.C. where he gained an impressive vocabulary watching Duke Basketball among the "Cameron Crazies." He spends way too much time organizing things when he'd rather be knee-deep in a Montana river, cycling with his fellow spandex warriors, or altering the landscape of some perfectly groomed golf course. However, he would trade all that for a stroll through Cades Cove with his Sweetheart of 15 years, Beth. They have four children (including triplet teens) who keep them in the car, the gym, or on the computer relearning algebra.
He has a masters from Gordon-Conwell and a doctorate from RTS.
